Key Issues
The philosophy that governs CW Communications are the beliefs Tom Begich brings to the organization after years of working in both urban and rural Alaska – helping to build justice systems, strengthen education delivery, provide youth opportunity, revitalize communities and neighborhoods, and helping plan for a sustainable future for all organizations and clients he works with. Good consulting doesn’t start and end with a contract – it is grounded in belief in the client’s core mission and a continued connection to that client after the initial work has been completed.
That belief in constantly moving forward toward visionary and yet achievable goals has been the hallmark of Tom’s work – whether at CW Communications or outside of it. It is the strength of the work we bring to our clients.
Working to ensure Economic Diversity and Energy Independence
CW Communications has worked with a variety of clients seeking support in developing unique economic opportunities. Whether exploring the feasibility of alternative energy projects, assisting in business planning, or seeking innovative approaches to education that build this skills of students in an ever-changing world, CW Communications works with clients to craft a path toward success.
As a member of the State Senate, owner Tom Begich co-founded the Innovation Caucus, served on the World Trade Committee, and introduced legislation that helped strengthen Alaska’s commitment to cheaper alternative energy. That same vision underscores our approach to building a resilient economic base for Alaska and our clients.
Building a strong education system from the ground up
CW Communications has taken an active role in supporting the strategic direction of major lawsuits (Moore and Kasayulie) that continue to shape Alaska’s education environment for over twenty-five years. We have provided strategic planning services to Alaska School Districts, including superintendent recruitment and on-site support, to youth-serving agencies, and advised and supported education organizations such as the Alaska School Boards Association, the Alaska Arts Education Consortium, and the Alaska DEED Arts Education Project.
Owner Tom Begich brings keen expertise to this area of our work. He served on the State Senate Education Committee, shepherded the Anchorage Reclaiming Futures project, served as Community Justice Coordinator for the Alaska Division of Juvenile Justice and provide training nationally as a contractor through the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency prevention for two decades throughout the country and in Alaska. He also served as the coordinator for Anchorage United for Youth – a consortium that brought together hundreds of Anchorage youth serving organizations in the creation of a comprehensive plan to reduce substance use, reduce juvenile delinquency, and improve youth graduation rates.
